Designating a Control Person as a Signatory

Designate a Control Person in NMLS to sign a surety bond or rider on behalf of your company.

About this task

Some bonds and bond riders require a Control Person to act as the signatory. A company user must designate the Control Person, after which the individual signs the bond from their own NMLS account. For first-time bond submissions, the company user must also mark the bond Ready after the Control Person has signed, to complete delivery to the regulator.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the NMLS Login page (State Context).
  2. Log in to your NMLS account.
  3. From the Dashboard on the Home tab, scroll to Surety Bonds and Riders.
  4. Access the Manage Surety Bond or Rider page from the Bonds Pending Action list.
  5. Click Designate Individual.
  6. Enter the required information to search for a Control Person (for example, Direct Owner, Executive Officer, or Indirect Owner with control), then click Search.
  7. Select the appropriate individual by clicking their NMLS ID Number.
  8. Click Confirm.
Note: The selected individual is displayed as the Designated Signatory and the bond is sent to the individual’s NMLS account for signature.
  9. After the Control Person signs, return to the Bonds Pending Action page and mark the bond Ready to deliver it to the regulator.
