Filing Amendments to the Company MU1 Form
Explains what an MU1 amendment filing is and why companies file amendments in NMLS—to keep their official record current and accurate with state regulators.
The Company (MU1) Form is your company’s official record in NMLS. When company information changes, you file an amendment to update that record so regulators have accurate, current data. Filing an amendment is different from creating a new MU1 application—it updates an existing licensed/registered record rather than initiating a new license request.
Common changes that can require an MU1 amendment include areas such as Qualifying Individuals, Other Trade Names, Legal Name or Legal Status, Main Corporate Address, owners and control information, disclosures, and books and records information. Specific state expectations vary; for authoritative policy information, see the NMLS Policy Guide.
Some amendments must be reported in advance via an Advance Change Notice for Company MU1 Amendments before the effective date (for example, many changes to Qualifying Individuals or trade names). ACN timing and documentation requirements differ by state. Always consult your state’s resources:
Fees for MU1 amendments are typically not required; however, some agencies may assess a fee for certain changes. If prompted for payment in NMLS, follow the on‑screen instructions. For general information, see NMLS Processing Fees.
High‑level process overview for amendments:
- Create a Company (MU1) amendment filing.
- Edit the section(s) related to your change (for example, Qualifying Individuals, Other Trade Names).
- Resolve completeness check messages.
- If required, provide ACN details and upload supporting documentation.
- Attest and submit; complete payment only if prompted.
Updates to MU1 can trigger additional actions. For example, changes involving individuals (such as Qualifying Individuals or certain owners/executives) may require the person to complete an Individual (MU2) Form. Branch operations may also need updates in the Branch (MU3) Form if the change affects branches (for example, trade name usage).
