Overview of the account administration process for company and institution Account Administrators.
- Request a Company or Institution Account
  A state-licensed company for federally registered institution must submit the Company Account Request Form to gain access to NMLS for the first time.
- Choosing your Account Administrators
  The Account Administrators for your company are persons of your company’s choosing that will have full access to your company’s record on NMLS and will be able to fill out and submit a complete company record (Form MU1 or MU1R) to any participating state regulator or the Federal Registry.
- Creating an Organization User
  The Primary or Secondary Account Administrators (AAs) are the only individuals that can create and manage other Organization Users (OUs) to assist with performing tasks in NMLS. Each OU is assigned specific roles by an AA, which determines the tasks that can be performed.

- Modifying Organization User Account Roles
  An Account Administrator can remove access or grant additional access to NMLS functionality by modifying the roles the organization user has.
- Enabling or Disabling User Accounts
  An organization user whose account has been disabled by an account administrator will not be able to log in to NMLS. The user will be able to log in to NMLS only after the account has been enabled by an account administrator.
- Deleting a User Account
  A deleted organization user account cannot be re-used. A new user account will have to be created by an account administrator in order for the user to log in to NMLS.
- Account Administrator and Organization User Initial Log in
  Upon the initial login to NMLS, Account Administrators and organization users are required to pay the NMLS subscription fee, register their two-factor credential, and reset their password. In addition, they will be required to create a Security Question and Security Answer.

  - Two-Factor Authentication Policy Information
    Two-factor authentication is a process by which two independent authentication methods (such as a security code produced by a physical token in addition to a username and password) are utilized to increase confidence that an individual attempting to access a secure system is authorized to do so.
  - Annual Security Credential Subscription Fees
    NMLS Account Administrators and organization users must pay a $55 annual subscription fee for each NMLS user account that requires two-factor authentication.
  - Paying the Security Credential Subscription Fee in NMLS
    An annual Credential Subscription fee will be assessed thirty days prior to the expiration of the Credential Subscription, to each NMLS account that uses two-factor authentication. Additionally, NMLS will generate an invoice and an email notification containing the current subscription expiration date.

Obtaining a Security Credential

Electronic security credentials may be acquired directly from the NMLS-approved two-factor authentication vendor, Symantec. Physical security tokens may be acquired through third-party retailers.

Security Credential Options

When choosing a credential, keep in mind that each user can have only one security credential registered to their account, and that specific security credential must be used when logging in to NMLS. Security credentials cannot be shared by multiple users.
