Completing Residential and Employment History

Learn how to enter complete and accurate residential and employment history in the Individual (MU4) Form.

About this task

All applicants for an MLO license must enter a full 10-year history of both residence and employment. This requirement ensures that licensing agencies can evaluate background information and verify eligibility according to federal and state standards. As outlined in the NMLS Policy Guidebook, no gaps are allowed between reported dates, and all history must use MM/YYYY format.

Time unemployed can be portrayed by using an Employment Gap entry. Part-time employment should be included where the employment time is needed for the applicant to meet the required years of experience. Indicate “part time” or “PT” in the “position held” field (e.g. PT school teacher).

Beginning April 18, 2026, Company Relationship information will populate the Employment History section of all individual forms (MU4, MU2 and MU4R), in addition to self-reported and Federal employment entries. For a list of Frequently Asked Questions related to this NMLS enhancement, view the Appendix 6: Employment Reporting FAQ.
