Failing to Renew Your License

Understand the consequences of not renewing a state company license in NMLS by the annual deadline.

If a company license is not renewed in NMLS by December 31, it is considered expired. The company immediately loses its authority to conduct licensed activities in the affected jurisdiction.

Failure to renew can also result in termination of associated branch licenses and sponsorships for individual mortgage loan originators (MLOs). Re-applying for these licenses may involve significant time and expense.

State regulators may impose additional penalties or restrictions for failing to renew on time. Always check the Annual Renewal Checklist for agency-specific requirements.
