Surety bond producers use NMLS to create, manage, and maintain Electronic Surety Bonds (ESBs) in coordination with surety companies and licensees. This section describes the producer’s responsibilities and available tools for managing bonds electronically within NMLS.

Bond Management for Surety Bond Producers
Surety bond producers use NMLS to create, manage, and maintain Electronic Surety Bonds (ESBs) in coordination with surety companies and licensees. This section describes the producer’s responsibilities and available tools for managing bonds electronically within NMLS.

Editing Pending Electronic Surety Bonds (ESBs)

Describes how a Surety Company or Surety Bond Producer can edit a bond in a pending or returned status before resubmitting it for execution in NMLS.

About this task

Pending and returned bonds can be edited by authorized Surety users to correct details identified by a regulator or internal review. This includes bonds in Returned to Surety status or those not yet delivered to a regulator.

After corrections are saved, the bond must be re-signed and resubmitted following the standard execution process.

Procedure

Log in to NMLS.
From the Home screen, click the Tasks tab.
Within the Tasks tab, click Surety Bond Management either in the top menu bar or in the main description panel.
Click Manage Bonds.
Use the filtering options to locate the bond that is pending or returned. Click the Manage button next to it.
Click the Edit button at the bottom of the page.
The Edit option is available only for bonds in Returned to Surety or other editable statuses.
Correct the bond details as needed, then click Save & Proceed.
Select the attestation checkbox, then click Sign to submit the corrected bond to the licensee for review and signature.

Results

Once the licensee signs the recreated bond and completes the Mark Ready process, the bond is redelivered to the regulator.

Note: All previous riders associated with a returned bond are voided automatically. If applicable, recreate riders after resubmission.
