Items That Can Prevent Renewal Eligibility

Certain conditions can block your ability to submit a renewal request in NMLS, including agency-imposed flags or outstanding fees.

Before you can submit a renewal request, NMLS checks whether any conditions exist that make you ineligible to renew. These conditions can be applied either by the system or by a state agency.

The following issues can prevent renewal eligibility:

  • Prevent Renewal Flag: A state agency can apply this flag to your record, which blocks you from submitting a renewal request for that state.
  • Outstanding Agency Fee Invoice (AFI): If you owe any unpaid fees directly to a state agency, you may be barred from submitting your renewal until the invoice is paid and resolved.
  • Unmet Continuing Education (CE) Requirements: If your CE has not been completed or posted, your record may show ineligible status.
  • Missing Criminal Background Check (CBC): If your CBC is required but not completed or expired, your eligibility may be impacted.

You can monitor your eligibility and address issues by clicking View Complete Record Information in NMLS Connect. Reach out to your state agency if a Prevent Renewal Flag or AFI appears unexpectedly in your record.
