Changing Employers

Explains how to update your employer in NMLS using an MU4 amendment filing.

About this task

When you change employers, your NMLS record must be updated to reflect the new sponsorship and employment relationship. This requires updates to your User Profile, company relationships and sponsorships, and your Individual (MU4) Form. You should also review the state’s amendment checklist on the State Licensing Checklist Compiler for any additional requirements outside NMLS.

Procedure

Update User Profile
  1. See Accessing Your User Profile. Confirm your phone number and email address are correct for your new employer, and make updates if needed.
End Current Company Relationship and Grant New Company Access
  1. Select the Relationships & Sponsorships tab on the My NMLS screen in NMLS Connect.
  2. Click the End Relationship button for your current employer and enter the relationship end date.
Note: This action removes any existing sponsorships. Your license status may be affected until your new employer submits a sponsorship request.
  3. Select Save.
  4. Grant access to your new employer. See Granting Access to Your Company for more information.
Note: Granting access allows your new employer to establish a relationship and sponsor your licenses.
Amend Your MU4 Form
  1. Navigate to the NMLS Login page (State Context).
  2. Log in to your NMLS account.
  3. Select Update Record in the Quick Links section.
    The MU4 Form is opened.
  4. Select the Employment link in the left navigation panel.
  5. Edit your previous employment entry by unchecking Is this your current employer? and entering the correct To date.
Note: The To date refers to the end date of your employment.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Click Add Employment History, checking Is this your current employer? and enter the correct From date.
Note: No gaps may exist between employers. If you had a period of unemployment, list it in Employment History. The employer name and address must match the NMLS company record.
  8. Select Save.
