Surety bond producer accounts in NMLS are created through submission of the Surety Bond Producer Account Request Form, which is reviewed and validated by the NMLS Operations team. The form collects identifying company information, contact details, account administrators, and documentation to confirm the entity’s authority to conduct surety business.

The person completing the request must have legal authority to act on behalf of the company and must attest that all information provided is accurate. If unsure who should complete the form, coordinate internally with your company’s leadership or legal counsel.

Procedure

  1. Access the Surety Bond Producer Account Request form.
    1. Enter the displayed security letters and numbers, then select Next.
    2. Complete all required fields, including your company’s Full Legal Name, National Producer Number (NPN), Employer Identification Number (EIN), and headquarters address.
    3. Provide contact details for both the Primary Contact and Secondary Contact, who must be authorized to receive and distribute all communications regarding the company and its representatives.
    4. Identify two Account Administrators responsible for maintaining the organization’s NMLS record and managing user access.
    5. Select each state in which your company is authorized to issue bonds under State Authorizations.
  2. Attach required formation and authorization documents.
    1. Click Choose File to upload documentation as a single merged PDF (not password protected, maximum 8 MB).
    2. Include the following in your submission:
      • Corporate Charter, Articles of Incorporation, or Partnership Agreement
      • Certificate of Authority or Good Standing issued by the Secretary of State (within 60 days)
      • IRS EIN Verification Letter (Form SS-4 or 147C)
    3. Refer to the Surety Bond Producer Account Request and State Authorizations Form for detailed document requirements.
  3. Review and submit the completed form.
    1. Verify all entries, ensuring the NPN and EIN are correct. These fields cannot be edited once the record is created.
    2. Review the attestation, confirm authorization, and select the check box acknowledging that all information is true and accurate.
    3. Select Submit to send your request to NMLS for validation.
      Note: Submission errors will display in red and must be resolved before the form can be submitted.
  4. Monitor for confirmation from NMLS.
    1. Within five to seven business days, Account Administrators will receive an email from NMLS_Notifications@NMLSNotifications.com confirming approval, a request for correction, or rejection.
    2. Upon approval, Account Administrators will receive separate emails containing their username and temporary password.
    3. Log in to NMLS using these credentials to complete setup and designate company representatives as needed.
      Note: Maintain usernames and passwords in a secure location for future NMLS access.
