Reusing Electronic Surety Bond (ESB) Numbers in NMLS
Explains when and how a previously used bond number can be reused in NMLS after a returned bond has been voided.
When a bond is returned by a regulator and later voided by the surety company, NMLS releases the associated bond number for reuse. This process prevents duplicate numbering conflicts and allows the surety to issue a corrected bond using the same bond number.
The ability to reuse a bond number is limited to the organization that voided the returned bond. Surety Companies can void a returned bond and reuse its bond number. Surety Bond Producers cannot perform this action, but they can view the voided bond within their Manage Bonds list.
