Managing Individual MU4 Filings
Learn how companies can initiate and manage Individual MU4 filings in NMLS on behalf of Mortgage Loan Originators (MLOs), including submitting the filing for the MLO's attestation.
All MLO management functions in NMLS are located in NMLS Connect, accessed by clicking the NMLS Connect tab in NMLS.
The Individual (MU4) Form is used by mortgage loan originators (MLOs) to apply for state licensure through NMLS. A filing may be initiated by the employing company or directly by the individual, but both parties play a role in completing the process.
Before filing, many state agencies require completion of Pre-Licensure Education and a passing score on the National and State Components of the SAFE MLO Test. Review the State Licensing Checklist Compiler to determine prerequisites and required documentation for each license type.
The general process includes:
- Company or individual initiates the Individual (MU4) Form filing in NMLS.
- The company may enter required information, or send the form to the individual for attestation.
- The individual must complete and attest to their portion of the filing. An NMLS account is required for the individual.
- The company submits the attested MU4 filing to the regulator.
- The regulator reviews the application, may place license items for missing requirements, and updates the license status in NMLS.
