System maintenance. posted September 4, 2009
NMLS will undergo maintenance beginning Saturday, September 5th at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) and ending Sunday, September 6th at 8:00 a.m. (EDT). The system will be unavailable during this time.

New state content outlines released. posted September 1, 2009
New content outlines have been posted for the following state specific test components: Georgia, Maryland, Kentucky, District of Columbia, Wyoming, New Jersey, and Virginia. Test enrollment for these states will open on September 22nd and the first test appointments will be available beginning October 22nd. See Professional Requirements > Testing.

New Mexico announces participation in NMLS. posted August 19, 2009
The New Mexico Financial Institutions Division has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. New Mexico will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting September 1, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. For details regarding transition deadlines, 2009 renewal information and more, see the New Mexico Transition Plan.

Five new agencies receiving applications through NMLS. posted August 3, 2009
NMLS is now receiving new application and transition filings for Alaska, District of Columbia, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Virginia. Licensees and new applicants are now able to submit these records through NMLS. Additional information on each state's requirements is available under Participating States. NOTE: Virginia is accepting applications for individual Mortgage Loan Originators only.

Idaho adds new license. posted August 1, 2009
As of August 1, Idaho is accepting applications for the Exempt Entity Registration and the Exempt Entity Branch Registration. This registration is only available to entities that solely engage in mortgage loan processing and mortgage loan underwriting functions through independent contractor natural persons who are now required to be licensed mortgage loan originators. This registration is not available to entities that perform mortgage loan origination, brokering or lending activities.  For more information see Idaho License Descriptions and Checklists.

Pennsylvania adds new license. posted August 1, 2009
As of August 1, 2009, Pennsylvania is accepting applications for the Pennsylvania Sole Proprietor Mortgage Originator License. This license type is designed specifically for sole proprietors who currently hold a mortgage company license and by virtue of the Pennsylvania Mortgage Licensing Act, must now be individually licensed as a mortgage originator. States move aggressively to implement SAFE Act. posted July 31, 2009
The Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) submitted a report to Congress relaying the rapid and successful implementation of provisions required under the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act). Passed on July 30, 2008, the SAFE Act gave states one year to pass legislation requiring the licensure of mortgage loan originators according to national standards and the participation of state agencies on NMLS. To date, 49 states and the District of Columbia have enacted or introduced legislation implementing the requirements of the SAFE Act. For more see SAFE Progress Report.

Test components available. posted July 22, 2009
The first group of SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator Test Components (National and State) are now available for enrollment and scheduling. In addition to the National component, the following State components are available: Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington. Company Basics training workshop on August 5. posted July 21, 2009
NMLS is sponsoring a web-based training workshop on Wednesday, August 5. The workshop is designed to help companies get started using NMLS. The registration deadline is August 4. For more information see NMLS Workshops.

Alabama announces participation in NMLS. posted July 20, 2009
The Alabama State Banking Department has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. Alabama will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting October 1, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. Call Center holiday hours. posted July 2, 2009
The NMLS Call Center is open Thursday, July 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET and closed Friday, July 3rd in celebration of the 4th of July holiday.

Vermont adds new license. posted July 1, 2009
As of July 1, Vermont is accepting applications for the Mortgage Broker - Sole Proprietor License. This license is only available to sole proprietors engaged in mortgage broker activities where no person, other than the sole proprietor, is authorized to act as a mortgage broker under the license. Idaho adds two new licenses. posted July 1, 2009
As of July 1, Idaho is accepting applications for the Regulated Lender Registration and the Regulated Lender Branch Registration. For more information see Idaho License Descriptions and Checklists.

Financial statement submission reminder. posted June 30, 2009
Financial statements, if required by a state regulator, must be submitted within 90 days of a company's fiscal year end. Companies with a Fiscal Year End of March 31st must submit their financial statements through NMLS by June 30, 2009. For more details on state requirements and how to use NMLS to submit financial statements, see Submitting Financial Statements.

The Alaska Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. Alaska will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting August 3, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. Upgrades to NMLS - Release 2009.2. posted June 18, 2009
NMLS Release 2009.2 takes effect Monday, June 22, 2009. While there are numerous minor upgrades, the major enhancements are related to professional requirements for Mortgage Loan Originators that have been established by federal and state laws. Release 2009.2 expands NMLS functionality to allow Companies and Individuals to enroll and pay for national and state test components. In early July, they will be able to use this feature. Additionally, this release will enable NMLS to store course completion records for pre-licensure and continuing education courses taken by Mortgage Loan Originators. Later this summer, after NMLS Approved Course Providers begin offering NMLS-approved courses, Companies and Individuals will be able to check the status of courses their MLOs have completed.

Oklahoma and Virginia announce participation in NMLS. posted June 9, 2009
The Oklahoma Department of Consumer Credit and the Virginia Bureau of Financial Institutions have issued announcements indicating their participation on NMLS. Oklahoma will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting August 3, 2009. Virginia will begin accepting new applications from Mortgage Loan Originators starting August 3, 2009. Arizona transition deadline is approaching. posted June 1, 2009
The deadline for companies in Arizona holding a Mortgage Broker License or a Mortgage Broker Branch License to transition onto NMLS is June 30, 2009. For more information consult the Arizona Transition Plan.

Upgrade to payment process. posted May 29, 2009
On Sunday, May 31st an upgrade will be made to the NMLS payment process to improve functionality and usability. Changes include the addition of a new field, entitled “Nick Name,” to use when saving payment information for future transactions. The payment process will also now be compatible with FireFox 3.0 and higher.

Training workshops on June 10. posted May 28, 2009
NMLS is sponsoring two web-based training workshops on Wednesday, June 10. The first is designed to help companies get started using NMLS, and the second will address how companies can best manage their Loan Originators' licenses. The registration deadline is June 9. District of Columbia announces participation in NMLS. posted May 27, 2009
The DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. DC will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting August 3, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. NMLS Resource Center improvements. posted May 27, 2009
Over the next few months the NMLS Resource Center will be adding new features and content. You may have noticed the small adjustment to the website's title and welcome message. New areas have also been added for Professional Requirements and Course Providers. Stay tuned for more additions. As always, we welcome your feedback.

CSBS seeks comments on testing and education policies. posted May 8, 2009
On behalf of the state regulators participating in NMLS, CSBS is inviting comment on the following policies:
1) Policy on Criteria for Granting Approval to Become an NMLS Approved Course Provider
2) Policy on Criteria for Granting Approval for a Course to Become NMLS Approved
3) Policy on NMLS Approved Pre-Licensure and Continuing Education Classroom Formats and Standards
4) 2009 Fee Schedule for SAFE Required Test Administration and Education Services

North Dakota announces participation in NMLS. posted May 5, 2009
The North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. North Dakota will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting August 3, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. For transition deadlines and more details, see the North Dakota Transition Plan.

New York Banking Department begins servicer registration on NMLS. posted May 4, 2009
Effective July 1, 2009, no person or entity, except those exempted by law may engage in the business of servicing New York residential mortgage loans without first being registered with the Superintendents of Banks as a Mortgage Loan Servicer. The New York Banking Department began managing mortgage servicer registrations on the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS), effective May 4, 2009. Companies will need to submit a Form MU1 through NMLS and choose the Mortgage Servicer Registration type to apply for this registration. Maryland announces participation in NMLS. posted April 28, 2009
The Maryland Office of Financial Regulation has issued an announcement indicating their participation on NMLS. Maryland will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting May 11, 2009. Licensees can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to this start date. For transition deadlines and more details, see the Maryland Transition Plan.

Call center closed. posted April 10, 2009
The NMLS Call Center will be closed Friday, April 10th. It will reopen Monday, April 13th.

Financial statement submission reminder. posted March 31, 2009
Financial statements must be submitted within 90 days of a company's fiscal year end. Companies with a Fiscal Year End of December 31st must submit their financial statements through NMLS by March 31, 2009. For more details see Submitting Financial Statements.

NH Mortgage Loan Originator Deadline is April 1st. posted March 18, 2009
The deadline to be compliant with New Hampshire RSA 397-A is April 1, 2009. Licensees who have not already submitted their MU4 filing for NH should do so now. Waiting until the deadline will increase wait time if you need assistance from the NMLS Call Center. For more details see New Hampshire License Requirements.

Three states approaching transition deadline. posted March 16, 2009
The following states have one or more license types with a transition deadline of March 31 or April 1. Licensees in these states should review each state’s transition plan for more details.
Arizona – March 31 transition deadline for Mortgage Bankers and Commercial Mortgage Bankers
Wyoming – March 31 transition deadline for all existing licensees
Georgia – April 1 deadline for all existing licensees

NMLS Functionality Update. posted March 12, 2009
Certain companies may have incorrectly experienced a Financial Statement completeness check error when attempting to file a transition request or amendment through NMLS. The system will be updated Thursday evening, March 12th to correct this completeness check error. Affected companies will be able to log in Friday, March 13th and submit their requests.

DE Mortgage Loan Originator Deadline is March 31st. posted March 12, 2009
The deadline to be compliant with Delaware's Regulation 2401 under Chapter 24 of Title 5 is March 31st. Licensees who have not already submitted their MU4 filing for DE should do so now. Waiting until the deadline will increase wait time if you need assistance from the NMLS Call Center. For more details see Delaware's Mortgage Loan Originator Transition Plan.

Upgrades to NMLS - Release 2009.1. posted March 4, 2009
During the course of development of NMLS and in response to industry and regulator feedback, updates are made periodically to NMLS through Releases. NMLS is currently issuing Release 2009.1 with all changes going into effect March 9, 2009. While there are numerous minor upgrades, there are four major enhancements in this release that will affect industry users of NMLS:
1. NMLS will begin to allow Company Users to file a Financial Statement with a single searchable PDF document.
2. NMLS will require an MU1 to be filed in each jurisdiction before corresponding MU3 filings can be submitted.
3. NMLS will release new tools to better manage privacy.
4. NMLS will provide you enhanced communication options.

Indiana Secretary of State accepting second round of transitions. posted March 3, 2009
Companies and individuals holding a license with Indiana Secretary of State that expires on December 31, 2009 that did not transition in 2008 can begin March 1st by filing the appropriate MU Forms through NMLS. For more information see the Indiana SOS Transition Plan.

Reinstatement period ends. posted March 1, 2009
The reinstatement period for the 2009 Streamlined Renewal Process in NMLS has ended. If you missed the renewal deadline in any of the states in which you hold a license, contact the state agency for further instruction.

Puerto Rico and South Dakota announce participation in NMLS. posted February 6, 2009
The Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions of Puerto Rico and South Dakota Division of Banking have issued announcements indicating their participation on NMLS. Puerto Rico and South Dakota will begin accepting new applications and transition requests through NMLS starting April 2, 2009. Licensees in both states can obtain access to NMLS and begin completing all necessary forms prior to their state’s start date. Tennessee and New Hampshire receiving applications through NMLS. posted February 2, 2009
NMLS is now receiving new application and transition filings for Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions. Licensees and new applicants are now able to submit these records through NMLS. For more information see the Tennessee Transition Plan.

New Hampshire State Banking Department is now receiving new application filings for individual Mortgage Originators. For more information see the New Hampshire Transition Plan.

Release 2009.1 scheduled for the weekend of March 6. posted January 22, 2009
NMLS is preparing for the installation of Release 2009.1 on March 6, 2009. The major component of this upgrade is the addition of Financial Statement upload functionality. This release will also include dozens of additional enhancements to NMLS. For a detailed list of the changes that will be made, see Release 2009.1 Table of Enhancements.

NMLS renewal period for 2009 has ended. posted January 5, 2009
Licensees who failed to submit a renewal request prior to the deadline may have an opportunity to request late renewal or reinstatement of their license in certain jurisdictions. To see which jurisdictions allow for late renewal/reinstatement and for more information, go to the State Renewal Information Page.

Transition deadline has expired for AR, IN-DFI, IN-SOS, and PA. posted January 5, 2009
