Company Licenses Description Requirements Checklist
Check Casher License This license is required of any company (including sole proprietorship) that, for compensation, engages in whole or in part, in the business of cashing checks, drafts, money orders, or other commercial paper serving the same purpose
Check Casher with Small Loan Endorsement This license is required of any company (including sole proprietorship) engaged in the business of making small loans as specified in RCW 31.45.073
Consumer Loan Company License This License is required of any company (including sole proprietorship) engaged in the business of making secured or unsecured loans of money, credit, or things in action, to Washington residents. (More Details)
Currency Exchanger License This license is required of any company (including sole proprietorship) engaged in the business of exchanging the money of one government for money of another government or holding oneself out as able to exchange the money of one government for money of another government.
Exempt Consumer Loan Registration This registration is available for any company that employs state-licensed mortgage loan originators but is not required to be licensed under the Washington Consumer Loan Act. This registration is optional and is intended for companies that wish to manage their mortgage loan originator in NMLS. Please consult the state regulator before applying for this registration. Exempt Mortgage Broker Registration (Voluntary) Companies that fit the definition of “mortgage broker,” but may claim statutory exemption as a subsidiary or affiliate of a depository institution, such as a Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO). (More Details)
Money Transmitter License This license is required of any company (including sole proprietorship) engaged in the business of receiving money or its equivalent value to transmit, deliver, or instruct to be delivered to another location inside or outside the United States; or selling, issuing or acting as an intermediary for open loop stored value devices and payment instruments, or any independent entity that holds or administers a dedicated bank account for fees and payments to creditors, debt collectors, debt adjusters, or debt adjusting agencies in connection with the renegotiation, settlement, reduction, or other alteration of the terms of payment or other terms of a debt.
Mortgage Broker License This License is required for of any company (including sole proprietorship) that for compensation or gain, or in the expectation of compensation or gain: (a) assists a person in obtaining or applying to obtain a residential mortgage loan or (b) holds itself out as being able to assist a person in obtaining or applying to obtain a residential mortgage loan.
