The second annual NMLS User Conference & Training was held in San Diego, California February 9-11, 2010. Nearly 300 regulators, industry system users, education providers, consultants, and other interested parties came together to engage a variety of topics on NMLS and mortgage regulation. Lively discussions were held concerning uniformity of state laws, multi-state regulatory efforts, the difference in requirements between state licensure and federal registration of mortgage loan originators, and many more topics. Panelists included state and federal regulators, company NMLS users, compliance experts and NMLS staff.
Highlights:
- NMLS operations have matured as the system now manages 15,000 mortgage companies and 87,000 mortgage loan originator and is expected to manage over 30,000 mortgage companies and over 250,000 mortgage loan originators by the end of 2010.
- Federal banking regulators provided details concerning their rules requiring registration of mortgage loan originators through NMLS.
- Multi-state mortgage examinations have begun and will in the future require companies to upload loan information into RegulatorConnect.
- A discussion draft of the proposed NMLS Mortgage Call Report was reviewed and is being released for public input.
